The Dakota

The Upper West Side building was constructed in 1884 and its historical facade still remains. The lobby alone includes a stunning 15-foot fireplace, while residents (the likes of Lauren Bacall and Judy Garland once among them) have access to a 24-hour doorman, concierge service, and private outdoor courtyard. While money can buy you almost anything in New York, the board has rejected A-listers from Billy Joel to Carly Simon.
