Take Your Sweetiepie To Sweetiepie's Opening Tonight In West Village

Nov 25, 2008 4:37 PM

"Welcome to Sweetiepie, the bizarre restaurant, dessert bar and absinthe den wrapped into one, opening for walk-ins tonight in the West Village.

Think of Sweetiepie as the imaginary restaurant that your little sister wanted to open when she was 11—but with hard alcohol. Or better yet, the fashionable boite Marie Antoinette would create to let them eat cake in the West Village. On those nights when you're looking to shake things up and land yourself in the middle of a conversation piece of a restaurant, then you now have Sweetiepie."

UrbanDaddy speaks, and so far, makes us want to try Sweetiepie with our own sweetie pie asap.  For the rest of the review and address, click below:

"Let's get this out of the way: Do not go here alone. Female companionship is a must, mostly due to the surroundings. You'll see pink marble floors and mirrored walls and ceilings; murals of whimsical zebras, clouds and...storm troopers; ornate, red, tufted banquettes. The overall effect will make you want to booze. A lot. So find your way to the white marble bar, order up some absinthe and dig into a $50 twenty-scoop ice-cream sundae, a mini wedding cake served on an elevated crystal tray, or just opt for a brilliant pancake dinner.

And if you really want to hammer it home, request to sit in the golden birdcage.

At this point, why not..."

I visited Sweetiepie last night with half a dozen close friends. We spotted the place last week after brunch and were very excited to try it out. NOT I repeat NOT WORTH IT. Not only was the menu incredibly disjointed (schnitzel, spaghetti, Asian chicken salad, beet risotto, omlette?) but the portions were small, the price way too high and the food was just bad. What might have been worse, were the excuses. A friend of mine got Chinese chicken salad that came withOUT meat. We were told 'the meat is just chopped so fine, you can not see it.' We all inspected and protested and were represented with a salad with a half a dozen crouton-sized chicken bits. For $19 I expect more than a 1/2 cup of shredded lettuce and invisible meat. The grilled chese/egg sandwich/tuna sandwich are all made on micro Wonderbread with Kraft singles. It's incredible the menu actually lists the Chef's name much less puts the word executive in front of it. The WORST part was that THE DESSERTS WERE DISSAPOINTING. I can get over the tacky-chic decour (it's fun) and the pushiness with alcohol (annoying but could be over looked) or the terrible dinner, but this place should be known for desserts. While the presentation was cute the ice cream sundae clearly again had grocery bought ice-cream (three scoops of breyers for $12, no thanks!) and came with a hair lodged in it. While the waiter tried to remedy the problems it's clear this place is in serious need of an identity, a reality check and a real chef!

this lady is an idiot. sweetiepie exceeded my expectations beyond belief!!! it was absolutely INCREDABLE. Elisa is a freak with no taste buds. the chicken soup is the best i have ever had, and the chopped salads were out of this world, i think it's a skill that the chef can chop so small it made everything look so pretty. the deserts were sooo soooo good, even better than la duree my favorite place in paris!

Doodle, I tend to agree with you. I don't want to call anyone an idiot, but that being said, I had a great experience while eating at Sweetiepie. The Mac and cheese was as good as my mother use to make it, the leeks were out of this world. We shared a salad and had a wonderful dessert. Prices did not seem out of line, overall the place sure is "quirky" but fun. can t wait to go back and have another one of those apple brandy martini thing they made for us. In the future I think Elisa might enjoy a better value for her money at Burger King
