Guys, let’s face it. Long gone are the days of meet cutes. Those, "Oh, we met at a coffee shop," or "Well, I just couldn't take my eyes off him,” romcom stories of yore. Nowadays pretty much everyone is on some sort of dating app, with a roster of the singles market on their phones.
We've all seen Match's overly plucky, "I met someone" ads, swiped through Tinder till our thumbs hurt, even heard a few Grindr horror stories. But keep the faith, because there’s a new dating app on the block which might finally be getting it right for gay guys. An app where guys can go to meet and connect with actual guys, not just headless photos of torsos and anonymous dick pics….
The adorably named Chappy has just set out on a most honorable cause - to Make Gay Dating Great Again. Striving to create a safer space for gay dating, where every leading man looking for love has to show his face in all his photos and all profiles are verified via Facebook to help tackle fake profiles.
And while Facebook verification is all well and good, the coolest feature of the app's whole schtick is definitely the Chappy sliding scale. You see, at any time, you're just a swipe of the hand from choosing to look for Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now. A function that offers a new kind of choice that even seasoned app users will envy - mood based dating, if you will. On the search for something spontaneous, or something significant? For fun, or forever? Whatever it is that you're into, you'll instantly be matched up with all the other eligible chaps who are looking for the same thing.
I.E. No more of those CRAZY fun "So, what are you looking for?" conversations.
So yeah, we'd say the whole Chappy thing is pretty cool. And after hitting up their launch party over at The Lately in New York this past week, we'd be willing to sign an affidavit to that effect. Let's just say it was a gay old time, a party of total hotties, and then some.
All in all, do yourself a favor and give it a spin. As they say, it's "Part Romance. Part Rendez-Vous. All Gentlemen." So hey, who knows, you may just end up finding love in a not-so-hopeless place?
