What to expect: Rockaway Beach is a huge spot for the city's surfers. If you're a newbie, take advantage of the summer's low tides to test out your surfing prowess. Often referred to as the "Hipster Hamptons," Rockaway Beach tends to attract the indie crowd. Although compared to Brighton or Coney Island, there are less food options here, this beach is generally quieter than its distant Brooklyn counterparts.
