Mary Lou Retton competed in the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles, CA and was the first female gymnast outside of Eastern Europe to win gold in the all around competition. In addition to her gold medal, Retton also received Silver for the team and vault, and bronze for the uneven bars and floors. As a result of her great success at the Olympics, she became the first official spokesperson for Wheaties and starred a commercial for them, as well as a commercial for Energizer batteries.
