'N Sync, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige, Super Bowl XXXV, 2001
Things were good in 2001: Britney Spears looked totally amazing and watching the clip of the Super Bowl halftime show reminds us of why we loved her so much in the first place; Steven Tyler hadn’t yet signed on as an American Idol replacement judge so the only thing he had to be embarrassed about was the angel basketball jersey he chose to wear that day; Justin Timberlake and the rest of his boy-band were still rocking frosted tips; and Nelly was still relevant. With an extravagant firework display, a near-seizure-inducing use of strobe lights, and such an awesome lineup, it’s no surprise that this halftime show totally rocked. But what really brought the house down was the group’s final collaboration on Aerosmith’s hit, “Walk This Way.” Britney Spears totally killed it…but this was back when we could count on her.
