This is disgusting and not totally unfamiliar to me. It's a story that I fear has happened many times over around this country and it goes like this: One of the most popular High School football players in small town anywhere (who is also the relative of a prominent political figure there), rapes a 13 year old girl while his buddies bang her 14 year old friend, and then leave them out in FREEZING weather with blood alcohol levels extraordinarily high. They also video tape the entire thing. The iron clad case (there was video and confessions!) is presented to the local judge who proceeds to THROW OUT THE CASE!!
The boys go on to local collages, continuing to enjoy popularity as sports stars while the girls lives are never the same again. This particularly story is even more crazy than most - the town kicked out the victim and her family - literally BURNED their house down! So many ughs....
After a family was driven out of their Missouri town following the rape of their 14-year-old daughter, #OpMaryville was launched to bring attention to the case, when charges against the 17-year-old alleged rapist were filed and consequently dropped. [Gawker]
