Goodbye, Pastis

Goodbye, Pastis?!
"Meatpacking District staple Pastis is shutting its doors after 15 years as a neighborhood staple." So read the headlines in my Facebook feed. Obviously I started panicking. The restaurant, which is connected to the Guest of a Guest offices, has been a staple of mine for lunch meetings and coffee dates for years. The Keith McNally owned restaurant filed a notice with the state Department of Labor last week, noting that it would be laying off all 200 employees on January 1, 2014. The noticed cited financial reasons for closing. Thankfully, McNally is planning to re-open as soon as he can....which will likely be a WHOLE YEAR!!?!? 2014 is going to be rough....
"At the beginning of January Pastis will be closing temporarily so that our landlord can proceed with his renovation and expansion of the building. I anticipate the construction will take a year. My plan is to reopen Pastis as soon as construction is finished. Hopefully, in January 2015."[Eater]
