Hanging Village of Huaxi, Huaxi, China

Hanging Village of Huaxi, Huaxi, China
A small eastern China village of just 2,000 farmers seems like an unlikely place for a modern skyscraper. But the people of Huaxi feel like the 1,076 foot Hanging Village is a symbol of collectivism and wealth. Over the past 30 years Huaxi has flourished and grown into a place of commerce and enterprise. The tower is emblematic of that development. In terms of design, the structure is appropriately reminiscent of a trophy, complete with a golden sphere atop the perpendicular towers. The building is big enough to fit all of the villages residents comfortably inside, and features residential living, as well as luxury hotel rooms. The people of Huaxi wanted to be recognized as the richest village in China. It's safe to say that the Hanging Village helped put them on the map. [Photo via]
