Batalla del Vino - Haro, Spain

Batalla del Vino - Haro
Have you ever wanted to put your drinking skills to the test? Then head to the La Roija region of Northern Spain for the Batalla del Vino. Every summer thousands of natives and tourists engage in a series of contests including a wine drinking competition as well as a Batalla del  Vino (Battle of Wine) where wine is poured on everyone in sight from buckets. Batalla del Vino takes place on June 29th every year, the day of the patron saint San Pedro, and the celebration begins as early as 7am with parades that lead to the Cliffs of Bilibio where the crowd holds a mass at the Hermitage of San Felices de Bilibio. After the spiritual mass, chaos ensues as red wine is poured over everyone and everything in sight until noon when the crowd returns to the town's Plaza de la Paz where the day ends with bullfights.
