La Splendido Hotel, Portofino Italy
The Splendido Hotel in Portofino is so obvious I hesitated putting it on this list. And yet....
Obviously it's obvious for a reason. If you can get past the same moneyed types you are going to find at the Hotel de Cap, you will find it hard to find something to hate on whilst dinning on this hotel's gorgeous terrace. Built in the 16th century as a Benedictine Monastery into the hillside over looking Portofino's port, this hotel gained fame in the 1950's when American stars like Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall made it their hotel of choice.
Fun fact: Richard Burton proposed to Elizabeth Taylor (for the first time) on the balcony pictured above here.
