Early Life
Born in 1935, Burt was raised in Great Neck, NY. Originally born as Ingram, he legally changed his name to Burt once he graduated high school. He spent time in the Army and took pictures for Time and Life magazines before officially moving to Maine where he began beekeeping. This hobby became a source of income for Burt. Here, he met partner and co-founder Roxanne Quimby who helped spark Burt's beekeeping business by selling Burt's wax candles at local markets and fairs.
