- She's been working with British producer Paul Epworth, who also produced Adele's famous "21" album. - In September 2011, Azealia released her debut single "212 ft. Lazy Jay." Overseen by Mike DeFreitas, the song was selected as BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw's 'Record of the Week' and it was nominated as one of Pitchfork's Top Ten Tracks of 2011. - She began gaining notability in 2011 whe she was featured on NME's "Cool List" for the year and when BBC announced she was nominated for the Sound of 2012, ultimately finishing third. -On January 16, 2012, She released "NEEDSUMLUV (SXLND)." The song samples Aaliyah and the release coincided with what would have been Aaliyah's thirty-third birthday. - At a Nike basketball event in the East Village, Azealia turned the head of Vashtie Kola. Vashti wrote on her blog,
“She’s 17-year-old emcee, and she spits pure fiyah!”
