Donna Karan for Great Expectations
Purists may wrinkle their nose at this updated version of the classic Charles Dickens novel, but for what the film lacked in retelling the original story it made up for in its interpretation of unattainable beauty Estella, played by Gwyneth Paltrow and clothed by Donna Karan. For the modern retelling, set in '90s Manhattan, the designer used pieces from her Fall 1996 collection in tones of of olive and hunter greens to play to director Alfonso Cuarón's aesthetic preference of cloaking his films with the color green. The fashions were paired with dark nails and lipstick for Paltrow to accentuate her subtle but effective man-eating powers.
