Hurricane Irene Hamptons Bound: A Recap Of Hurricanes Past

No Named 1938

Not to scare you or anything, but this was one mean no-named monster. It hit Long Island on September 21, 1938 with 160 mph sustained winds after storming the Bahamas and NYC. It caused storm surge flooding 3 miles inland on Long Island, destroying approximately 14,000 homes. Yikes. Good thing this storm wasn't named because I would be awfully embarrassed if we shared it. [Photo via]
