Belle 1976

Belle 1976
What a pretty name for a mean girl. She struck NYC with 90 mph winds but had a hard time staying strong during her trip through Long Island. Just after midnight on August 10th, Belle landed on the South Shore of Long Island, NY, near Jones Beach, as a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 75 mph and rapidly weakened over land, becoming extratropical later that day over New England. An estimated 30,000 and 250,000 people evacuated from New York and New Jersey. [Photo via]
