Where to Stay: The Ace Hotel London Shoreditch

4. Where to Stay: The Ace Hotel London Shoreditch [Website]
The Ace Hotel chain, co-founded by Alex Calderwood, brought their Seattle born "no-frills" hipness to Manhattan's east side, and now it's making its way across the pond -with their official opening last week. Known for restoring "challenging properties in emerging locations," Calderwood is taking on his newest project with a London outpost in Shoreditch (a hub for galleries, theaters, and designs that draws in artists from around the world). The Ace hotel chain is taking the 10-year-old Crowne Plaza and transforming it into one of their trendy hotels with interiors designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby of Universal Design Studio (the company that received world-wide recognition last summer for designing the Olympic torch). With the team behind Bistrotheque and Shrimpy's (two of the trendiest cafes in the city) helming the restaurant, bar and event space, the Ace Hotel's chain will be giving this building a total hipster makeover.
