Canter's Deli Guns n' Roses at Canter's [via] I include this one with some reluctance since I am not at all alone when I say I think the food at Canter's is pretty gnarly. But being the age-old Fairfax institution that it is since 1931 (I'd venture to say it's been thoroughly cleaned no more than 10 times since then), we would be remiss not to mention this old school deli that fellow members of the tribe seem to take great comfort in. This is one of the only places I am aware of where Jews not only tolerate, but enjoy shitty food in an even shittier setting. I guess there is something kind of neat about being able to walk into that place and get some insight into what life was like when the counter-culture movement was just taking shape. I bet there's still a few surviving hamentaschens and chunks of gefilte fish from the Nixon administration just chilling. Whatever, it's open 24/7 and has all the sub-par food you could ever want. The attached Kibitz Room brings the place it's historic cool factor having been the stage for bona-fide rock star mini-concerts. And there's a sick photo of Guns N' Roses from when Slash and Axl were still on speaking terms sitting in a booth there on the wall.
