Slide #5

Final Lesson: High/Low Collaborations Are Great... In Theory
Although I walked away empty handed, I learned quite a few lessons from this disaster of a shopping trip. And I had a brilliant revelation; we can expect to see the end of designer and low end retailer collabos in the near future. Sooner rather than later, designers will realize just how much money is in the business of reselling these cheap items on eBay, and that they're losing out on the profits. At this time, there are over 2,700 items that come up for an eBay search on Marni for H&M, and I have watched that number climb on an hourly basis. Hello CFDA, here's another issue you can add to your long list of helping out the vulnerable designers of our time. To me, the reselling of designer collaborations seems almost as harmful to the fashion industry as knockoff items are. To calm my nerves post shopping fail, I had to go to Starbucks to get a coffee. And what did I encounter but a woman wearing a Missoni x Target terrycloth sweatshirt on top of mom jeans. She was just reinforcing my point:  these designer collaborations are quickly spiraling downward. Once seen as exclusive and refreshing, they are now lining the closets of America's worst dressed.
