Hemingway Daiquiri at La Descarga
I think we can all agree that the completely endless trend of the lavishly vintage-themed bar is, at best, becoming minorly annoying. You can only hear so many explanations about why a 5 oz cocktail is worth every penny of the $18 you paid for it because of some house-made goat extract in the Falernum or whatever before you're liable to snap and just start smashing vintage filament lightbulbs left and right. But when you get right down to it, that's more about separating the good upscale places from the bad, and with its Cuban theme, ridiculous rum collection, cigar lounge, and commitment to classic lounge-style live music and entertainment (see photo), La Descarga is very clearly on the side of the good. You can't go wrong with a classic Cuban-style mojito here, but nor can you afford to miss the Hemingway Daiquiri, a Bacardi 1909, grapefruit and maraschino liquer concoction that's somehow both refreshing and substantial.
