Acabar
The former space of legendary Indian restaurant Dar Maghreb that featured seating on the floor and belly dancers boasts a stunning transformation with the arrival of Acabar (also featured on our list of L.A.'s Best New Bars of 2013). From the owners of The Little Door and Little Next Door and chef Octavio Becerra, the food menu follows the Spice Trail, mixing elements of the Middle East, Eastern Mediterranean, parts and Asia and Europe with lots if French influence. Try items like Skewered Spicy Prawns, Whole Crispy Sea Bass, Lamb Merquez Meat Balls, and Porn Bread (corn, aged cheddar, bacon, almond-honey butter). Truly one of L.A.'s most beautiful and romantic spaces, the decor similarly reflects the cuisine concept, retaining much of the unique design elements featured in Dar Maghreb such as pillars, high arch ceilings, walls and floors covered in intricate mosaic tiling, and exquisite Moorish-style archways. Upon entering, you'll find a dining room and raw bar to the left, a cozy lounge of couches running along the walls to the right, and a bar straight ahead where the cocktails are made with Josh Goldman and Julian Cox at the helm. Definitely one of the year's most exceptional additions to L.A.'s dining and cocktail scene, get transported to an exotic faraway land with an evening at Acabar.
