Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson: Immortal at Staples Center 13 Grammys, 750 million-plus albums sold, a close personal friendship with a Chimpanzee, and the introduction of "Jesus Juice" into the popular lexicon- Michael Jackson was a strange, creepy, massively influential pop star. So if any modern institution was going to attempt to fully encapsulate the Spirit of Mike, it might as well be Cirque du Soleil, the French-Canadian acrobatic troupe which is itself wildy popular and more than a little creepy. The result of this collaboration is Immortal, the third Cirque show based on a legendary recording artist (The Beatles and Elvis have already been honored). And while initial reviews were less than blown away by the Vegas chintziness of the whole spectacle (the LA Times more or less called it MJ on Ice without skates), one can't help but feel that they might be missing the point: MJ himself would never have been satisfied with a show that exercised restraint. It's at Staples for all three days this weekend. [Details and Ticket Info] [via]
