Members Are Ditching Mar-a-Lago As Donald Trump Tries To Move In

It seems even Donald Trump's wealthiest worshippers have given up on him. We mean, who wants to pay $200,000 to hang out with a loser? 

Following his departure from the White House this month, the one-term POTUS has taken up residency at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach resort once used to host glittering campaign events and foreign dignitaries. Just recently, it was the site of a maskless, Republican-filled New Year's Eve bash (we guess those attendees were still hoping to get the election results overturned). 

But if the Trump name was once the primary draw of the landmark estate-turned-private club, then the loss of its implied cachet is now the reason even its most loyal members are leaving. According to Laurence Leamer, historian and author of Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump's Presidential Palace, people have "silently walked out" of the conservative hot spot after Trump's loss. "It's a very dispirited place," he told MSNBC. 

Not that it was ever really that nice in the first place. Filled with Trump memorabilia and as gaudy as you'd expect, the resort has been hit with a disturbing amount of health violations in recent years, including citations for undercooled raw meat, improperly treated fish, and coolers that weren't in working order in its kitchen. 

And who can forget the caviar scandal that took place in 2018, when a diner experienced shock and horror upon discovering that her order was presented with plastic spoons and cheap crackers? Truly traumatizing stuff! 

To add insult to injury, the disgraced president may also be left scrambling for a new home, as Palm Beach locals are disputing his residency at the estate, saying it violates a 1993 agreement with the town that prohibits him from living there full-time. 

No members, no friends, no place to live? As Donald himself would say, sad!
