10. The Cars
[Photo via, via] From the Classic Car Club becoming the hot new venue of Soho and the Upper East Side to 2013 New York International Auto Show Preview success, we are auto-obsessed. And in The Great Gatsby, they were even more obsessed than us. The seats of cars, from the Rolls Royce to the Studebaker Roadster, were the literal lap of luxury in the era of prohibition and the hot seat for many of the best Gatsby moments. Jay Gatsby's prized possession after Daisy was his yellow convertible coup and there is no better sight then Leonardo commanding a vintage car. For the film, two 1929 Duesenberg vintage cars were taken for a spin, each worth $3 million roughly. The actors had to undergo driving lessons in pre-production before hitting the gas on the loans from an American Auto Museum.
"It was a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat-boxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind-shields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town." - The Great Gatsby
