3. The Mysterious Delay

3. The Mysterious Delay
You can chose to believe whichever story surrounding the release date delay for The Great Gatsby. There is Baz Luhrmann's statement about Sydney's extreme rainfall in the summer of 2012 that pushed filmmaking miles over schedule. Or you can believe the reports that the release date was changed by the studio. Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman released a statement saying,
"Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way. We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible.”
Some saw the delay as a sign of questionable quality, while others considered financial reasons behind the decision for the strategic summer box-office gross. Either way, the premiere date mysteriously shifted from December 26th, 2012 to May 10th, 2013, which is no minor switch. But lucky for us, the star-studded soundtrack is a result of the extra time and is a much-appreciated addition. [Photo via]
