Tracey Emin, Roman Standard

Tracey Emin, Roman Standard
Beginning May 10, a bronze bird perched atop a 13-foot pole will overlook SoHo's Petrosino Square. Tracey Emin's seemingly simple structure sets out to prove that a public installation doesn't have to be extreme to be effective. Originally commissioned by the BBC in 2005, Roman Standard's New York appearance is presented by Art Production Fund (APF), White Cube and Lehmann Maupin, in cooperation with NYC Parks & Recreation. According to Emin, the non-demanding delicacy of the sculpture adds an aspect of "alchemy."
“I wanted something that had a magic and an alchemy, something which would appear and disappear and not dominate.”
