Museum of the City of New York

The Museum of the City of New York celebrates the city's history by educating the public about its distinctive character. One of the most beloved New York City-centric fashion archives is the museum's Costume and Textiles Collection which showcases approximately 26,000 garments and accessories from the late 17th century to the present. The collection includes many theatrical costumes and accessories, gowns and the work of several prominent New York designers such as Worth and Mainbocher. The museum includes a documented history linking the object to the notable New Yorkers who wore them. Guests not only learn about the ever-changing fashion industry but also get a glimpse into the rich history of the city.
