I also loved the piece on buying vintage. Do you have any tips or favorite vintage shops in the city? SD: I only buy vintage jewelry because I need to be with an expert vintage shopper in order to buy vintage. One thing I learned from that article is that you don’t know what you don’t know. The writer, Holly, is a vintage expert and she has a blog called Butler and Claypool, which I love. So my first tip is to start reading vintage blogs because only by informing yourself of how to look for the best products will you discover the best. And don’t actually buy vintage from Washington D.C. or New York City because it gets picked-over so quickly. She recommends in the article that you go to places like Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that have great histories of American manufacturing because they’re really at the root of where those great products come from. There are some great spots in New York, but they’re expensive. My number 1 tip? For affordable vintage, leave New York. MB: My tip: Shop your mother and grandmother’s closets! I wear my grandmother’s watch every day and it’s so nice to have that personal connection with her all the time. And I love it, it’s kind of retro. [Photo via]
