The Jane Ballroom

How do you open places and keep interest levels high when the past model of maintaining a sort of secrecy isn’t possible today? Matt: "We’ll occasionally get frustrated and Carlos will get frustrated with this presence of cell phones. Carlos: "I will tell you what doesn’t look cool is this: (looks down at his iPhone5 with the bright light shinning on his face). When you are at the club and you have this bright light on your face that just doesn’t look good. You don’t look cool. “ You should write a book on tips for looking cool when out. Carlos: “Turn down your brightness on your cell phone. Just turn it down.” Matt: “I think that if you look at some of the stuff we’ve opened. We’ve never been in a partnership that believes that the celebrity, page six, publicity angle is the way to do it. We’ve always been about the slow burn. And having that gradual organic build, and that’s what The Jane has been, and the Westway and the Smile. It’s just been about being patient. I feel like we’ve never really been about the secret in the first place. It’s never been the core.”
