Interview: Fashion Designer Cody Ross on NYFW

What can we except to see in NYFW from you in this collection? The newest collection (called ‘Drone Explorations’) takes its cues from drones (those unmanned aerial vehicles that loiter overhead and then BANG you dead as dirt). I’m transfixed by how the CIA is able to relentlessly spoil the fun for the bad guys. More specifically, I’ve designed garments in the image of drones and have used the vehicle’s contours, fuselage and missile systems as subtle patterns and detailing. It sounds ominous and ironic but the result looks really cool and sexy! Expect a noire palette with streaks of bright colors, nuanced layering, unisex styles and sexy modernist dresses. Where did you get your inspiration for this collection and in general? I got inspired by the news, especially political and cultural news. I also admire artists like Banksy, Zane Lewis, Vera Lee, Marianne Aulie and Paul Insect and often contemplate their work in the context of my own. I’m inspired by a broad range of themes from art to mathematics, sci-fi and war. [Photo via]
