For someone who likes yoga or likes to take random fitness classes, what's the advantage of pilates?

HA: Pilates is strength training that has a large focus on core strengthening. It's resistance based. Those are the key things that describe what pilates is. So you're going to be doing exercises that have resistance in order to create strength, and a lot of them are abdominal or back muscles, or all of those core groups. With yoga for instance, you have a pose that often has a very deep stretch to it and you hold it for a very long time. With pilates you're doing smaller movements that are in a specific range so they're very targeted, and you're going to do multiple reps of them, and then you're going to change it slightly so you're targeting something else similar, but different.
