How did you begin Of a Kind? What does the name mean?
Well! Of a Kind started with a massive email chain between Claire and I in January 2010, and I’m kind of shocked at—and impressed with—how much of the site we launched 10 months later resembles what we outlined there. The name speaks to the fact that we commission designers to create limited-edition, exclusive pieces—so they are 30 of a kind, 45 of a kind, etc.—and also to the fact that the designers we feature are all of a certain type. We love a double meaning around here.
