After inquiring about a drink-special rumor we heard--a drink pairing for everyday of the week--Swet confirmed that it is not true, but then gave us a little insight into what he has in mind. Johnny Swet went back to the center of the bar, grabbed two glasses, poured a beer, and then put both glasses on the table—with one being a shot glass, and grabbed a bottle off the back bar and began pouring a shot.
“This is the only drink special I have in mind right now,” Swet said. “It’s not on the menu yet, but it will be. I’m doing a shot of Hochstadter’s Slow and Low Straight Rye Whiskey. We’re going to pair that with our Coney Island beer. This is the type of Whiskey my father used to drink.”
The shot and beer pairing are a perfect match- smooth taste with no burn, and a crisp beer to settle down with after. As Johnny was greeting more guests and politely helping his wait and bar staff, he told us that the menu is not complete yet.
“I plan on adding a few more things to the menu; like five or six things,” he said. After pushing a little more, Swet told us, “I’ll be adding a Moules Frites to the menu. And a small pickle platter that will include an assortment of five different/rare pickles.”
