Wednesday: Alan Partridge Screening
Cute looks abounded and a surprise musical guest was about to take the stage but we had to dash to the next thing: a screening of new brit comedy “Alan Partridge,” which drew an equally star-studded crowd from the opposite end of the cultural spectrum. In the middle of catching up with new wave art rock legend David Byrne about his new musical about controversial shoe fanatic first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, we were tapped on the shoulder by someone who was recognizable until he said “Hi, I’m Ira.” The NPR nerd in us nearly fainted as we shook hands with
This American Life’s Ira Glass. This guy is like god of the podcasters, which may sound geeky but when the film was over he broke a bottle of beer. (It was accidental but it was still pretty fucking punk rock.)
