Big Brother Big Sister

Big Brother Big SisterConsidered by many to be the “founding agency of the nation’s youth mentoring movement,” Big Brother Big Sister’s mission is to provide the life changing support of a positive mentor to all children, no matter their circumstances. In New York alone, there are more than 520,000 children living at or below the poverty level. Each year, BBBS is responsible for providing roughly 3,500 of these kids with what they call a “big” (think brother or sister) who can guide them and help show them a way to chose their path in life. All you need to be a “big” is to be a great listener who can be a positive role model in a child’s life (and to be accepted after applying to be a big). BBBS is unique because it fosters a 1:1 environment, which they feel can have the biggest impact on not only the child, but also the big. You can find answers to many more questions HERE.
