The Rockaways have come a long way since The Ramones sang about them, and with the impending cancellation of the Hamptons for those who don't own a summer home this season, the area is getting one step closer to becoming the Montauk of the five boroughs. It's already got plenty of surfers and beachy taco shacks, and soon it'll be welcoming an Instagrammable new hotel.

Still slated to debut this summer (despite the murky future of beach openings), The Rockaway Hotel will provide chic, year-round accommodations for travelers to the Queens community, perhaps prompting more visits to the mostly locals-only area. Nevertheless, owners hope to keep the spirit of the neighborhood alive. "Community engagement is one of our key pillars and we’re delighted to showcase local artists, designers, and filmmakers through rotating exhibits, events, and programming," said Michi Jigarjian, the property’s chief social impact officer, in a statement.

In addition to the 53 guest rooms, eight "extended stay" suites, and two on-site restaurants, the hotel will boast a rooftop pool and bar with ocean views helmed by IGC Hospitality, known for venues such as Refinery Rooftop, Parker & Quinn, Park Avenue Tavern, and Rockaway’s own Bungalow Bar.
