Cynthia Rowley, Designer

I moved to NYC to start my business and lived and worked in a loft on Varick Street naively believing it was 7th Avenue, the address for success in fashion. Broke and never any food in the fridge, the only way I could get help was to offer employee housing (to my only employee who basically lived on my couch). As with all things in New York, where you start doesn't really matter. You just have to get started.
