My first apartment was a loft in Chelsea. This is pre- Wholefoods and pre- anything nice in the neighborhood. It was big square space with high ceilings. I put a bed right smack in the middle and called it a day. That's all I needed. My neighbors upstairs maintained a beautiful lush garden on the roof - I particularly remember the Japanese Maple trees.
