South Street Seaport Restoration

Here's something a little different! If you love boats, history, or both, you should look into helping restore the old ships at South Street Seaport. Volunteers help clean, polish, paint, and perform general maintenance on the historic vessels. No worries about motion sickness, it's a big boat and it's docked so your stomach won't be bothered by the waves. If sailing is something you're really into, you could also be trained to be a crew member to assist with the public and educational sails the Schooner Pioneer takes around New York Harbor daily. You're sure to learn a lot of history volunteering here, not to mention the great service to the South Street Seaport as well as the youth of NYC who are eager to learn!
