Super Bowl Selfie Kid Was The Best Meme Of The Night

by Stephanie Maida · February 5, 2018

If there's one reason to love the internet, it's its collective ability to turn even the most split-second of moments into epic memes for, well, days to come. Then again, we all still fondly remember Left Shark, the quirky costumed back-up dancer for Katy Perry's 2015 halftime show.

Now, finally, we have a new Super Bowl meme mascot, and his name is "Selfie Kid."

While Justin Timberlake's performance was as exciting as anything we'd expect from a human jar of mayonnaise, Selfie Kid arrived just in time to salvage it.

Just before closing out his show, J.T. wandered into the stands to dance along with the crowd - specifically 13-year-old Ryan McKenna who was awkwardly pulled into a dance-hug by the pop star. As all teens in the presence of a celebrity are wont to do, McKenna whipped out his phone while Justin seemed to encourage taking a snap. Alas, he had some technical difficulties (apparently his phone died) and was forced, while millions watched, to furrow his young brow at that darn device in order to try again. After the deed was done, Justin skipped away, quipping "Super Bowl selfies!" into his mic.

Needless to say, the web went wild.

Thank you, Selfie Kid, for providing some laughs - even for Patriots fans.
