While most people only associate Los Angeles with movie stars and other members of the 1%, it's actually much more spread out than that. There are parts of LA, like Sherman Oaks, where you can actually get a decent apartment for an affordable price.
However, in New York, you can pay that same decent LA apartment price and end up with the tiniest apartment in the middle of a sketchy area. If you're REALLY lucky, you'll get a place with a rooftop view like this.
Both are undoubtedly more expensive than the average city, but don't think that means they aren't worth it.
