The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Based on the brilliant, bestselling novel by Stieg Larsson, directed by David Fincher, and featuring an all-star cast of Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and Christopher Plummer, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo seemed a shoe-in for a Best Picture nomination.
But alas, despite its brilliant visuals, ensemble, and nuanced storytelling, the film fell short of the grand prize, due in part to the graphic scenes of abuse toward women. Although Rooney Mara is deservedly up for Best Actress for playing the troubled wunderkind Lisbeth Salander, the overall excellence of Tattoo would have made it a worthy contender for Best Picture, were it not for the conservative voting demographic.
