Give yourself a Cultural Break in Kyoto (Japan)

Believe it or not, there are other things to do in Japan apart from Fuji Rock in the summer! While festival heads will wholeheartedly disagree, the pretty awesome city of Kyoto is a great place to escape to, known for its array of beautiful Buddhist temples, shrines, and all-around cute houses made with wood in traditional Japanese fashion. Stay at the Four Seasons hotel which is not only architecturally stunning, but offers some incredible facilities matched with impeccable service. But don’t get too comfortable in your temporary lair, as there is much to see in the city, starting with Arashiyama, a tranquil bamboo forest tucked away in a super old town. Then, make your way to Kokedera, a secret moss garden in Saiho-ji. Make time to check out all the temples, but if you must see one, make it the Kiyomizudera, which is a magnificent structure built without a single nail. Lit up at night, it is one of those sites that will forever be imprinted in your mind.

Other things to do: Check out the busy streets of Gion at night to catch Maikos (Kyoto's term for "geisha"), scurrying to work in full garb.
