Other details: The Washington, DC chapter of International Furnishings & Design Association (IFDA), along with four other chapters across the country, sponsored a design challenge to raise funds for its 2014 charity theme, Helping Heroes at Home. The challenge, entitled “Take a Seat," enlisted local design professionals, artists, and craftspeople to "up-cycle" ordinary chairs into one-of-a-kind works of art. On October 1, Home & Design Magazine and Room & Board, American-made home furnishings retailer, hosted a private in-store launch at Room & Board's brand new rooftop accessories department. The event gave members of the press, IFDA members, and volunteers a first look at the chairs as well as a chance to meet the participating designers, including JD Ireland, Victoria Sanchez, Kristin Peake, Bill Gardner, and more. Attendees were privy to a simultaneous Skype among all five participating IFDA chapters: Philadelphia, Boca Raton, Scottsdale, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.
