2. A survey conducted by the Model Alliance finds that a shocking percentage of models are harassed at work. The Model Alliance, an agency with the goal of improving working conditions for models, found in their study that roughly a third of models have eating disorders. According to the survey they conducted, most of the participating models had been told by their agencies to lose weight, causing 68% to suffer from depression and anxiety. 50% confessed that they had been offered cocaine (most of them under the age of 18), 30% said they had been touched inappropriately, and 28% had admitted to feeling pressured to have sex with someone at work. Models are considered independent employees and thus do not have the benefits of employment rights like workplace protection or minimum wages. [Fashionista] [Photo via]
