Joan Juliet Buck and Vogue Part Ways
4. Escaping Vogue's masthead since February, Buck's position as Paris editor has been in question for sometime. Buck's March 2011 piece on Asma al-Assad, Syria's first lady, has earned considerable attention in regard to Buck's departure. Her 40 year-run with the international magazine is ascribed as purely business when a spokesperson from Vogue told WWD the reason for Buck's departure was that her contract was up. The controversial article has since been permanently removed from Vogue's website and Anna Wintour, herself, issued a statement speaking out against al-Assad and the Syrian Regime. Buck is currently freelancing for the New York Times' T Magazine and W. [WWD]
