Christie's Fine And Rare Wines Auction At The Atwater Estate

by KRISTIN LUCIANO · June 8, 2009

On Saturday, we not only got to take a private tour of the Atwater Estate in Westhampton Beach, but were able to witness numerous bidders vie for fine and rare wines at A Christie's First: A Special Sale of Fine and Rare Wines at the Historic Atwater Estate. According to Charles Curtis, head of North American Wine Sales at Christie's, Saturday's sales totaled $1,199,994. The top lot sold was Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1982 (8 bottles) for $20,400. In addition to the bidders present at the Atwater Estate on Saturday, others participated from Honk Kong, Brazil, U.K, and Japan via phone. $6,000 was raised for the Motion Picture & Television Fund with the sale of the celebrity-signed magnum of Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 1929 champagne.

In the midst of this recent bad spat of Hamptons weather, the sun came out for the auction, and helped make the event a great success along with the owner of the Atwater Estate, Len Conway, Starr Fish Market for the catering, and the sponsorship of the food and wine by the Newton Vineyard in Napa Valley, CA.
