That's not the case in Rockport's latest Bridgeport boat shoe, designed by DJ Cassidy and launched at the East Hampton Blue & Cream store this past Saturday. One of our favorite celebrity DJs appeared in an ad for the shoe company in 2008 and has remained a fan, so when the company offered him the opportunity to design his own pair, he jumped on board. Celebrating Cassidy's snazzy new boat shoe with the DJ design were Russell Simmons, Ryan Leslie, Lyor Cohen, Andre Harrell, Swizz Beatz and Paul Sevigny. He drew inspiration from his two biggest influences - both fashion and musically - Run DMC and Michael Jackson. So what do a pair of shoes like this look like? Cassidy considers the greatest outfit of all time to be Michael Jackson's look in the "Billie Jean" video: Black leather suit, red bow tie, pink shirt, pink socks... Not exactly an obvious translation into a pair of boat shoes, but it works. With soft pink perforated leather, red canvas upper, and black pinstripe, the shoe is signature Cassidy with a twist. It also features gold eyelets and a pink terry cloth foot bed unlike any other shoes by Rockport. We have a feeling these will be the shoe to have amongst Cassidy's friends, fans and Michael Jackson supporters. Just one problem...
So how do you get your hands on a pair of these? Well, Rockport has produced fifty limited edition pairs to commemorate each year of the King Of Pop's life, numbered 1-50. Might not be the easiest to get a hold of, but well worth it we imagine. The exclusive shoes come packaged in a "custom DJ Cassidy shoe box" with a red satin bow tie and personalized card from Cassidy talking about his inspirations. A little different than your typical boat shoes. Then again, Cassidy is a little different than your typical DJ.
Post partying for his shoe launch, he took his Michael Jackson moves with him to the AXE Lounge at Dune where he worked his magic on the turn tables earlier this summer. Hard to miss in his famous fedoras, we had the opportunity to run into him again. Always a pleasure Cassidy!
