An astounding 549 participants competed in the Robert J. Aaron Mighty Montauk Marathon Triathalon on Saturday June 13th. First place went to William Kelley, age 46 and from Chatham, NJ. He won the triathalon with a total time of 1:50:46.9. The event was founded by Robert J. Aaron twenty-seven years ago and consists of a 1 mile swim in Lake Montauk, a 22 mile bike race and a 6.2 mile run.
Some of the major beneficiaries included: the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, Montauk Senior Nutrition Center, East Hampton PBA, and the Montauk Ambulance Squad. In addition Gatorade, Pepsi, Montauk Manor, and Hampton Nutrition also sponsored the event.
