Swimwear Scandals

Swimwear Scandals
Movement away from the loose fitting and prude gowns started with two news breaking scandals in 1907 and 1913. In 1907, Australian swimmer, Annette Kellerman, was arrested in Boston, MA for wearing the below pictured swimsuit. Apparently, the suit was so tight and outrageous that it was ground for public indecency. 1907 & 1913 The next big move forward for swimsuits was in 1913 when fashion designer Carl Jantzen created the first two piece swimwear consisting of a sleeveless one piece with shorts on the bottom. Jantzen came out with this new gown for the women's swim team who had just been admitted to the Olympics.
